Welcome to our new series for June, Bombs Away! We discuss movies with a massive budget that bombed BIG at the box office. We’re starting off with a cult classic: Waterworld. For those who don’t know anything about the award-winning stunt show at Universal Studios, Waterworld is a post-apocalyptic action film released in 1995 starring Kevin Costner. The movie is set in a future where the polar ice caps have melted, covering the Earth in water and leaving humanity to struggle for survival in makeshift floating communities. Dryland is what they’re searching for and Denis Hopper’s villainous character, Deacon, is obsessed with finding it. Does this movie sink or swim all these years later?
