Okay let’s get a little timely, a little Canadian and a little Letterboxy, with Blue Heron. A relatively new director, Sophy Romvari, puts out a semi-auto biographical banger about growing up with a “strange” sibling. The movie plays with memory, time and audience perspective an a refreshing and controlled way. This movie blew up on Letterboxed in a big way and it’s Canadian, so it felt like a good chance of pace from the previous films we did.
The movie is about a Hungarian immigrant family with the POV being 8-year-old Sasha and her adult self reflecting on those memories. What’s real and what’s not real? That’s the question.
